Sam Johnson Senior Center
I belivve there used to 2 or 3 tables but I am told there only one now, mostly bcause noone may know that there is a big hall for three sessions (Mon,Wed, Fri) is reserved for table tennis for players over age 50
Taking a collection from players to buy more tables & barrierswould not be a problem, if Plano Rec. is not willing to supply the table but again if Plano Rec. does not want competitive table tennis players using SJRC (or any of Plano Rec. Centers) , there is no point in making further comment.
However if Plano Rec. would be receptive to allow players to self-train with multi-ball & multi-serve training or allow free group coaching & paid one-one one coaching for people over age 50 during above 3 reserved time slots using 3 barriered tables, tha would work well for lot of 50+ players tha tmey be interested.
It is really not necessary for Center Staff to set up these 3 tables & barriers unless there are some regulations that prevents this. Since there only 3 tables, the players & coaches themselves can set up teh tables & barriers easily as needed.
Based on my discussions with many players who go to TMRC or carpenter Park, from east Plano, many of them would rather or also play or train at Oak Point or Sam Johnson (More than 70% are over age 50) instead of driving cross town especially in traffic during evenings for TMRC sessions.
