TMRC
Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation center
Not much needs to be changed inside the gym for 3 days of play for competitive players. It is as best as it can be given that all 12 tables are needed. DFWTT uses individually barriered tables but it is not possible at TMRC & Liberty because all 12 tables or 8 tables are heavily used. Only thing that is possible for improvement is to add back the 5 PM to 6 PM on Mondays & Wednesdays that was there before COVID for free group coaching, paid one on one coaching & doubles sessions to capture more children to tabletennis as a sport.
About the rec area at TMRC. Very bad is all I can say. This is as bad for a very nice rec center like TMRC. In all fairness most rec centers in Allen, Dallas etc & nationwide are like this & are safety hazards even for "recreational" "basement" "ping pong" .
I never understood if there is any reason why the two sign up boards are on the opposite ends at TMRC. In fact I don't think two boards are even needed . One board with two pens & two erasers may be all is that is needed. (Top half of the board can be for one side & bottom half for other side. This would also prevent some players who try to sign up both sides though this is not allowed as a rule, if I am not mistaken.). All 12 tables can be signed up on the same single board or at the very worst the signup boards should be on same wall side or next to each other & few feet apart or something. .
At the very worst at least properly barrier the tabletennis table to minimize the safety hazard. There is enough room for 2 barriered table tennis tables for recreational play (as well as for multi-ball training & coaching if Plano Rec. is willing to allow it... I have explained this in another page in this blog about coaching) even if you leave foosball pool & air hockey in the same general area. Sorry but I am not sure why those round tables are there.
